Weymouth enjoys its second Chase the Dinosaur event

More than 100 people in dinosaur costumes descended on a popular beach for an annual event to raise money for charity.

The second Chase the Dinosaur event took place on Weymouth Beach in Dorset on Saturday after the first event last year.

It consisted of four races of different lengths and raised money for the Will Mackaness Trust, a charity that aims to give water sports opportunities to children in Weymouth and Portland.

Dawn Rondeau-Irvine, chief operations officer at We Are Weymouth, which organised the event, said it was an “incredible sight” to see.

She said the event was about celebrating Dorset’s Jurassic past.

There were four separate races – a 5km for adults, 2km for under 16s, 1km for under 11s and a short race for preschool-age children.

The event also included animatronic dinosaur shows and the unveiling of the first phase of the Weymouth Fossil Trail, a fossil hunt though the town where people can learn about the town’s Jurassic past by scanning QR codes.
