Boca Juniors have been ordered by the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) to partially close a section of their stadium for Tuesday’s Copa Sudamericana group game against Sportivo Trinidense following racist behaviour from some sections of their supporters.

The Argentine giants have also been handed a $100,000 fine and will have to display in their stands a banner condemning racism, the club confirmed.

Brazilian club Palmeiras reported racist incidents during last season’s Copa Libertadores semifinal first leg on Sept. 28 at La Bombonera.

Ahead of Tuesday’s game against Paraguay outfit Trinidense, Boca has warned its club members that the harshest punishments will be given for those involved in similar actions.

“We call on the fans to reflect and experience the game with the passion that characterises us but far from any type of racist demonstration and xenophobic acts,” the club said.

“The club warns that it will make available all means to identify and sanction people involved in this type of actions. We ratify our commitment to football free of any kind of discrimination.”
