Curling: Scotland beat Norway to lie second at world finals

Scotland sit joint second in the World Men’s Curling Championship round-robin table after recovering from a loss to Switzerland to beat Norway 8-4.

Bruce Mouat’s world number one rink have six wins and two losses, having also been shocked by the Czech Republic team currently ranked 31st in the world, led by Lukas Klima.

The Scots are level with Xiaoming Xu’s 23rd-ranked China, with 2014 Olympic champion Brad Jacobs’ third-ranked Canadian hosts out in front with six wins and one defeat having played one game less.

A three at the second end put Yannick Schwaller’s Swiss side, ranked fourth in the world, in control and they pressed home their advantage with a four in the fifth end before eventually sealing an 11-7 victory.

Mouat’s rink were tested again by Magnus Ramsfjell’s 15th-ranked Norwegians before a three at the final end put the Scots back on the winning trail.

Scotland’s next matches are against Sweden, a match being shown live on the BBC Sport website and iPlayer, and United States.

The top six sides in the standings after the round-robin stage qualify for the play-offs at the weekend.

Olympic qualifying points gained from last year’s championships will be added to this year’s final total, with the top seven sides gaining qualification for Milan-Cortina in 2026, along with hosts Italy.

Those who fail to secure their place will have another chance to do so via a qualifying tournament at the end of the year.
