Election 2024 live updates: Primary elections in Maryland, Nebraska and West Virginia

Voters headed to the polls Tuesday for primaries in Maryland, West Virginia and Nebraska. Sarah K. Elfreth is projected to defeat former Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn and 20 other Democrats to win the primary in Maryland’s 3rd District, according to the Associated Press. Angela Alsobrooks’s projected victory in Maryland’s Democratic primary for Senate sets up a general election contest between the Prince George’s County leader and Republican former governor Larry Hogan in a race that could help determine which party controls the chamber. West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice is the projected winner of one of the other biggest races of the night: that state’s Republican primary for Senate. With Sen. Joe Manchin III (D) retiring, Justice is well positioned to put the Senate seat in Republican hands in November in a state that voted for Donald Trump by 39 points in 2020.
