Murder accused appears in tearful court

A 56-year-old man has appeared in court accused of killing a woman in Bridgend.

Michael Davies is charged with murdering 48-year-old Tracey Davies who was found dead at a property on Bryn Terrace in Cefn Cribwr.

Mr Davies spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday 29 April.

Police were called to the property on the night of 18 April amid concerns for the welfare of two people.

They discovered the body of Tracey Davies, formerly Young, and Mr Davies was arrested at the scene.

Bearded and wearing a blue sweatshirt, he looked straight ahead throughout the four-minute hearing on Monday and did not look at the packed public gallery where people were crying.

Speaking before the hearing, Det Insp Claire Lamerton of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “This has been an incredibly distressing incident for the community in Cefn Cribwr. Our thoughts remain with Tracey’s family and friends.”

She confirmed police were was not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
