Rapist Garry Cain jailed after evidence from murdered teenager

Rapist Garry Cain jailed after evidence from murdered teenager

Cain had denied assaulting the teenager, pushing her causing her to fall down an embankment, removing her lower clothing and restraining her before raping her.

He said that traces of the girl’s DNA found on his clothing had been transferred after the girl put on a pair of jogging bottoms having performed a sex act on him.

The jury found Cain guilty of raping the teenager.

Judge Lord Arthurson called for criminal justice social work reports and adjourned the case for sentencing until 10 January at the High Court in Edinburgh.

Cain’s name was added to the sex offenders register with immediate effect.

Amber was sexually assaulted and murdered in November 2021 by her brother Connor Gibson, who was jailed for at least 22 years for the crime.

Five months before she was murdered, Amber was raped by 20-year-old Jamie Starrs.

He was also convicted of raping another teenage girl in Bothwell in May 2021, and was sentenced to 10-and-a-half years in prison.
